Tile Installation Guidance

BESTEN HOME recommends that customers share the following installation guidelines with both installers and end‑users.

Tiles are only one component of a larger building system. Tile failure often results from a combination of factors such as incorrect design, unsuitable substrates, poor surface preparation, installation conditions, adhesive selection, product incompatibility, or installer skill level.

BESTEN HOME does not participate in the design, selling, or installation process, and once tiles leave our warehouse, we have no control over how they are installed or used. It is the responsibility of the project manager or installer to ensure all materials are compatible and that installation complies with the Australian Building Code and AS3958 – The Australian Standard for Ceramic Tile Installation.

Installation Guidelines

1. Before Installation

• Confirm the tiles match the colour, design, and specifications of your order.
• Check batch numbers on each carton to ensure all tiles are from the same batch.
• Mix tiles from multiple boxes to achieve a consistent blend.
• Ensure you have enough tiles to complete the project, as shade variations may occur between batches.

2. During Installation

• Tile less visible areas (e.g., under appliances) last in case additional tiles are required.
• Continuously check for defects and maintain a consistent blend throughout installation.
• If any issues arise, stop installation immediately and contact BESTEN HOME or your tile supplier.

3. After Installation

• Keep original tile boxes for future reference or re‑orders.
• Ensure the installer thoroughly cleans grout and residue.
• BESTEN HOME’s warranty covers product defects before installation. We do not cover losses caused by incorrect installation or misuse.

Material‑Specific Guidelines

Glazed Porcelain, Polished Porcelain & Natural Porcelain

• Follow the ceramic tile installation steps above.
• Sealing is optional but recommended in high‑spill or high‑traffic areas.

High Gloss Glazed Tiles

• These tiles scratch more easily and are best suited for “soft shoe” areas such as bathrooms.
• Protect them during construction to prevent surface damage.

3D Mosaic Tiles

• Raised textures require careful grouting.
• Wait at least 24 hours after tiling before applying grout.
• Use a grout float or flexible squeegee to press grout deeply into joints.
• Clean excess grout along the direction of the grooves to avoid filling textured surfaces.
• Consider stain‑resistant or easy‑clean grout for long‑term performance.

Extruded Tiles & Terracotta

• Expect greater variation in colour, size, and shade.
• Refer to the specific product’s installation instructions for detailed guidance.

Porcelain Pavers

Suitable installation bases include:

• Sand/gravel
• Grass
• Pedestals
• Concrete

Glass Tiles

• Use white adhesive specifically designed for glass tiles.
• Ensure 100% coverage for a flawless finish.
• Handle carefully and use appropriate tools to avoid cracking or splintering.
• Avoid abrasive cleaners that may scratch the surface.

Lighting Considerations

• Ensure installation lighting matches final lighting conditions. Different lighting can highlight imperfections or shade variations.

Storage

• Store tiles on their edge to prevent breakage.

Mosaic Tiles

• Mosaic sheets may show more shade variation.
• Lay out several square metres before installation to check consistency.

Fiberglass Pools & Spas

• BESTEN HOME does not recommend tiling fiberglass pools due to movement and temperature‑related risks that may cause failure.

Additional Recommendations

• All work should be carried out by licensed contractors experienced in tile installation.
• Follow the Australian Building Code and AS3958 standards for all ceramic tile installations.

Cleaning & Maintenance

• Avoid abrasive cleaners that may damage tile surfaces.
• Use mild detergents for daily cleaning.
• For stubborn stains, use specialty tile cleaners recommended for your tile type.
